The Castaways…

Adam Levine (Voice, Trumpet, Ukulele, Guitar, Keyboards) has studied composition, performance and improvisation (orchestral/chamber music, jazz, and rock). As a trumpet player he’s been a regular fixture of New York’s New Music scene as well as played with numerous avant-garde and rock groups. In 2008 he formed Mappa Mundi to play his original Chamber Pop compositions.

 

Suzanne Lipkin (Violin) took home a flyer from school twenty years ago and ended up playing the violin. Since arriving in New York in 2002, she has performed in musicals, music videos, weddings, and with puppets. In addition to Mappa Mundi, she plays regularly with Huxley Vertical Cabaret Nouveau and is principal second violin of the New York Symphonic Arts Ensemble.

 

Matthew Moore (Drums) is a Brooklyn-based drummer who has been performing in various rock and jazz groups in New York and Milwaukee, WI for more than twenty years. He was fortunate to study with Scott Wenzel at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music and with Chico Hamilton, Charli Persip and Andrew Cyrille at the New School University and his musical interests are wide-ranging. In addition to Mappa Mundi, Matthew currently performs in New York with Otis Pike Western Swing and the Atomic Grind Show and has on occasion been known to venture into the world of underground musical theater.

 

Mike Darnell (Bass) came up in school orchestras and basement rock bands while growing up in Wisconsin and continued his formal training in the University of Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra.  Since moving to New York, Mike has played in a variety of ensembles ranging from cabaret to acoustic Latin pop, and can currently also be seen performing with dark Americana act Eli August.

 

Jason Sagebiel (Guitar, Ud) is a composer, guitarist, ‘udist, and conductor in the NYC area. He plays in public. He teaches in private.  He studied classical guitar, and composition and has one of those master’s degrees in it, but has much left to learn and prefers live music in bars to concert halls. He grew up in Texas as a hunter, but lives a NY vegan lifestyle. He was a Marine in the Iraq war, but studied music with the local artists there.  He sits inside when he plays music, but loves running outside. He conducts the New York City Classical Guitar Society’s (http://www.nyccgs.com) Orchestra, and runs his own music school (http://www.foresthillsmusic.com) and blog (http://www.queensguitar.com).
